The Ruling Upon a Rented Building Being A Masjid
Answered by al-'Allaaamah 'Ubayd Ibn 'Abdullaah al-Jaabiree
[Q]: (O noble scholar) Allaah has blessed us with a centre which our brothers (community) have rented. All praise is for Allaah, it is the first salafee centre in which the five daily prayers and the jumu'ah are established. However, some salafee brothers said that it is not considered to be a masjid since we, the community do not own the building. Based on this, they stopped praying jumu'ah with us.
The Ruling Upon a Rented Building Being a Masjid and Praying Tahiyatul-Masjid In It
By al-'Allaaamah Muhammad Ibn 'Abdul-Wahhaab al-Bannaa
[Q]: Here in the West, we live in cities where there are no salafee masaajid. Al-hamdulilah, the salafee brothers are gathered there to use a facility as a masjid, some of them have lease terms for many years. In the masjid, the salawaat (prayers) are established five times a day, salaatul-jumu'ah and a designated Imaam (is present). Unfortunately, some of our brothers say that this facility is not considered a masjid because the building is not owned by the Muslims, and as such, they do not make tahiyatul-masjid (the two-unit prayer of greeting the masjid) and they pray the jumu'ah prayers with others who are not salafees (since they don't consider this building to be a masjid).
